International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour
Convenes Young Fashion Talents and Boosts Cultural Exchange
June 29, 2018 – Reykjavik, “International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour” officially set off her voyage, sailing across several continents to Iceland. The two-day event, held at Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhus, kicked off with an opening ceremony and the inaugural catwalk show on 29th June while the showcase featuring the collections of the designers will continue until 30th June.
Iceland is an island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and is one of the five countries in the Nordic. The rich natural landscapes and features of Iceland provide artists with a vital creative inspiration while its capital, Reykjavik is a well-known home of arts and culture. Initiated by Dr Annie Wu, SBS, JP, organizer of the tour, Member of The National Committee of The 7th, 8thand 9th term of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Member of Standing Committee of The 10th, 11thand 12th term of The National Committee of CPPCC, and Lifetime Honorary Board Member of World Trade Centers Association, the Tour has selected Reykjavik, Iceland as the first stop, enhancing the artistic and cultural communication between Iceland and the world.
The tour aims to provide a platform for the young fashion designers to showcase their works globally and it will take place in several countries spanning four continents.The opening ceremony was officiated by Dr Annie Wu, former president of Iceland Ms. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Iceland, Mr. Jin Zhijian, Ms. Kristin A. Arnadottir, former Iceland’s ambassador to China, Ms. Lin Wei, famous violinist from China based in Iceland, Ms. Angel Hon, curator of International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour. They were flanked by the designers participating in the showcase tour.
Dr. Annie Wu pointed out, “Reykjavik has inspired many artists and designers with its unique cultural and artistic atmosphere and natural scenery. As the first stop of the tour, we hope that designers from all over the world would have the opportunity to exchange their culture and inspiration. We try to build a platform for them to broaden their horizons and get to know about trends in different cultures, so as to enrich their works and open up more business opportunities.”
Following the opening ceremony, the officiating guests visited the showcase to meet with the designers. The event was culminated in a catwalk show featuring the “Belt and Road” collection specially created for the showcase tour by the participating designers.
International Young Fashion Designers Showcase Tour features 12 designers from various countries including Hildur Yeoman from Iceland, Kemi Kalikawe from Tanzania, Tony Vergara and Veronica Angel from Panama, Junne Liu, Jarel Zhang and Lina, Yingzi, and Yuzhu from the Trio-design team called Kanoe from China, Mary Yu, Kenny Li, Singchin Lo and Mountain Yam from Hong Kong. To enrich the cultural aspect, a twin musicians Laufey Lin Jonsdottir and Junia Lin Jonsdotti from Iceland as well as Andy Leung, well-known singer from the Hong Kong music group C AllStar put up a performance in the show.

After the inaugural show in Reykjavik in Iceland, the tour will go to Panama City in Panama, Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and finally to Zhuhai in Mainland China.

The inaugural show in Reykjavik is co-hosted by the China Embassy and Iceland Design Centre. It is also supported with the courtesy of an expert team of professionals from Hong Kong, including Jumbo Lau, renowned stylist; Charles Wong, star hairstylist; William Tam, veteran program producer and Billy Kan, renowned photographer as well as Mosha Lundström Halbert, fashion director from New York.
